The first English penny postage stamp is often attributed to the "Penny Black," issued in Great Britain on May 1, 1840. The introduction of the Penny Black marked a significant milestone in the history of postage stamps and postal services.

The stamp featured a portrait of Queen Victoria, who had ascended to the throne in 1837.

We still are a nation of card senders and who hasn’t experienced the delight of the Post Office queue at Christmas?

 ‘Cashier Number Three Please.’

My ‘Thanet Post’ print imagines four different coloured one penny stamps each with its own coastal theme: fish, lobster, shells and seaweed. It’s a must for all you Thanet philatelists out there and that’s not easy to say.
